Birdbox, is it worth the hype?

The memes are everywhere, it’s all anyone is talking about and so I decided to give it a watch with my friends and tell you guys what I thought.

For those of you who haven’t seen Birdbox yet, it is a psychological thriller on Netflix directed by Susanne Bier, and it takes you on a journey of survival with a mother and her two children after the world is taken over by a mysterious almost demonic force, that decimates the population. It stars Sandra Bullock as the main character and the storyline is based off of the idea that ‘what you can’t see, can’t hurt you’, in which case the survivors must now avoid coming face to face with an entity that takes the form of their worst fears. This is why in all of the images and memes that you see, Malorie (Sandra Bullock) and her two children are wearing blindfolds.

I would rate this film an 8 out of 10. I was really intrigued as to the way it was filmed. There was a lot of cutting to and from the present day and the past, which I felt really drew you in and made you want to keep watching it.

The acting was outstanding, and each character in the film played a key role. With so much suspense at times, it was nice that they decided to also include a little bit of humour to relax you a little after a thrilling or suspenseful scene. It meant that you could enjoy it a little more. I won’t give you any spoilers but the ending really rounded the whole film off well.

The concept for this film is very relative to today and something that can be carried over into our everyday lives. Focus on the positive, not the negative and don’t let fear tell you how to run your life.

I recommend giving this a watch if you are into post-apocalyptic thrillers.

If you guys have watched it, what were your thoughts on it?
